2021 State of the College Address

Kaye Husbands Fealing, dean of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, shared an overview of accomplishments in the last year and a look forward to what is next in her annual State of the College address on Sept. 9, 2021.

She emphasized belonging as a catalyst for change and highlighted the College’s many successes in the past year.

“We have an impressive new cohort of faculty, ten tenure-track faculty, 26 New non-tenure-track faculty,” Husbands Fealing said. “On the executive leadership team, we have a new school chair and three interim school chairs, as well. And we have three associate deans that are working really hard already, although this is just the third week of the semester.”

She highlighted the 50^th anniversary of the first degree in Economics and the School of Economics’ success in attracting new students. She noted high-profile media appearances by Johnny Smith in the School of History and Sociology and Lisa Yaszek in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication. Husbands Fealing also mentioned the importance of School of Public Policy advisor Leslie Ross’ election to NACADA, the national academic advising association, and exciting new academic programs in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs.

Husbands Fealing also spoke to her priorities for the second year of her tenure as dean. They include strengthening communications, development efforts, and internal and external engagement, including the launch of the dean’s Coffee and Conversations with Dean Kaye series. She also discussed building more support for students, staff, and faculty, and continuing with strategic planning work.

The dean also took time to answer questions from faculty and staff on a variety of issues.
